Personal memory should not depend on any one company, subscription, or technology generation. The Vault is RAGMI Labs' commitment to permanence — an institutional custodianship model for folios that need to last.
Every piece of personal memory stored on a commercial platform exists at the pleasure of that platform's continued operation. Social networks are acquired, pivoted, or shut down. Photo services discontinue. Storage providers change terms. Companies go bankrupt. The data may technically be exportable — but in practice, most of it is lost.
This is not a hypothetical risk. It is the pattern of the last thirty years of the internet, repeated across every generation of consumer software. What you have entrusted to a platform is only as permanent as that platform's business model.
RAGMI is local-first precisely to avoid this dependency. But local storage has its own fragility — devices fail, accidents happen, families disperse. A life story that exists only on one person's Mac is one hard drive failure away from silence.
The Vault is the answer to both problems.
Memory stored on commercial platforms exists at the pleasure of that platform's continued operation. Acquisitions, pivots, shutdowns — the pattern repeats across every generation of consumer software.
Even when platforms offer export, the format is often proprietary, undocumented, or dependent on a specific viewer. Data liberated from one platform cannot be read by another. It becomes uninterpretable.
Almost no commercial platform has a documented plan for what happens to user data after the user's death, or after the platform's dissolution. Memory is simply abandoned — or handed to a liquidator.
Your stored folio is not subject to subscription cancellation, platform shutdown, or commercial pivot. The custodianship commitment is a binding institutional obligation, not a marketing promise. Folios deposited with The Vault are held for as long as your family needs them to exist.
All stored memory is held in the Human Context Protocol — an open, documented, non-proprietary standard. Your folio is never locked to a platform. It can be read, exported, and transferred by any future system, regardless of how the technology landscape changes over decades.
In the event that RAGMI Labs ceases to operate as a commercial entity, the custodianship of deposited folios transfers to a designated institutional partner — a university archive or heritage organisation — not to a liquidator. This succession arrangement is documented and binding before the first deposit is accepted.
Every deposited folio carries a designated beneficiary instruction — the person or people who will be granted access after the depositor's death. The Vault manages this transition, ensuring the folio reaches the people it was built for at the moment that matters most.
The Vault is not a product line. It is not subject to pricing reviews, feature deprecation, or acquisition. The commitment made at deposit is the commitment that holds — permanently, regardless of what happens commercially at RAGMI Labs.
"We are constituted not to hold data, but to hold a promise. The promise is simple: the folios entrusted to us will reach the people they were built for, however long that takes."RAGMI Labs — Continuity Commitment
The Continuity Commitment is the institutional foundation of The Vault. It is a documented, legally binding pledge — not a terms-of-service clause, not a marketing statement — that governs how deposited folios are held, how custodianship transfers in the event of RAGMI Labs' dissolution, and how beneficiaries access their inheritance.
We are in quiet dialogue with institutional partners — university archive departments and heritage organisations — who will serve as the named succession custodians. Their appointment will be documented and published before The Vault accepts its first deposit.
The Human Context Protocol is not just an export format — it is the reason The Vault can credibly promise longevity. A proprietary format is only as readable as its creator's continued existence. HCP is an open, documented, non-proprietary standard. It will be readable in fifty years regardless of what happens to RAGMI Labs.
Every folio deposited with The Vault is held in dual-layer JSON-LD + Semantic Markdown — both layers human-readable without specialist software, both layers machine-interpretable by any AI system built on current or future standards. There is no proprietary codec. No closed container format. Just structured text and documented schema.
This is a deliberate design choice. The format outlives the platform. The story outlives the software. And your family receives what was meant for them, in a form they can actually open.
We are in dialogue with institutional partners and working through the legal architecture of the Continuity Commitment. If you are interested in being among the first depositors — or if you represent an institution that could serve as a succession custodian — we would like to hear from you.
Everything The Vault preserves begins with a completed folio. Download RAGMI for Mac and start building the story that will last.
